"All evidence of human activity is fascinating", says Los Angeles-based photographer Alex JD Smith, explaining what drives his work.
"The marks we make, the history we leave behind - both on our physical selves, and on the landscapes we create - these are the things that make us who we are. Even when we have moved on we leave evidence of our lives; physical memories, an archaeology of existence, wherever we have been.
